The Male-Warrior Hypothesis
- hunglee2 3y agohence the need for external enemies; even if one didn't exist, they must be invented, or have their threat inflated. Our collective failure to evolve beyond this impulse is probably the best theory to explain Fermi's Paradox
- xorbax 3y agoWhy? That assumes human evolution succeeded because it's as competitive as all other animals, rather than because there is an unique level of cooperation granted by language and communication that outweighs the baser "me vs you" bits. Ants can do more than an ant because they cooperate. Efficient socialisation is what sets humans apart. If an alien society outpaces us, it's because they understand the idea of making a big thing from many cooperating small things, and replacing physical competition with abstract competition - and comprehending necessary variables impartially.
- ilaksh 3y agoI wonder if there could be an overarching geopolitical theory that deeply integrates this type of hypothesis. Put those tribal genetic struggles in the context of anticipated hyperspeed superintelligent general artificial intelligence (and eventually artificial life).
