OpenAI filed a patent for GPT-5
- seydor 3y agothat's a trademark, not a patent
- robertlagrant 3y agoIndeed.

- not_your_vase 3y agoHahh, GPT-2 is not trademarked by anyone
- stev-dl 3y agoLooks like they're adding in quite a few "multimodal" features in GPT-5. Emphasis on audio: artificial speech production, audio-to-text, voice recognition - likely building on Whisper. Translation for text/speech also seems on the roadmap.
- naillo 3y agoAlways a bit funny when openai makes use of trademark and copyright law that they so frivolously ignore when actually training the models.
- antupis 3y agocopyright is very hard to get right if you have 5TB data, if we now start pulling trigger for copyright enforcement it will just create moat for OpenAI and basically kill open models.
- IshKebab 3y agoIt has yet to be determined by the legal system whether they are breaking copyright laws or not.

- SeanLuke 3y agoCan we have the headline changed? This is a trademark filing, not a patent filing.
- mr-ai 3y agoMy mistake, I wish I could edit the title!
- naillo 3y agoSidenote I can't imagine openai would ever be able to actually patent gpt-x given that they neither invented the model (google did) nor created the training data.
- DelightOne 3y agoIts a trademark application, nothing to do with patents the title is wrong.
