A Tesla driver charged their EV in a small town and made it to the front page
- joezydeco 3y agoI wonder why EV owners don't go to campgrounds and use their RV/Shore Power outlets to charge when in a pinch like this. A quick search of Ekalaka shows at least 2 RV campgrounds open for business.
- tapoxi 3y agoPlugShare shows 14-50 outlets, mostly in campgrounds, and I carry around a 14-50 charger in the event I'll ever need to do that. By design they're not going to be conveniently located downtown though.
- yellowapple 3y ago> They paid $60 for the charge — which included the cost of power for a musician who used the same port for a street dance event as part of the town’s dinosaur festival. It oughtta be illegal to just casually mention the existence of, and I quote, "the town's dinosaur festival" and provide no elaboration whatsoever: https://cartercountymuseum.org/dino-shindig https://cartercountymuseum.org/dino-shindig
- mixmastamyk 3y agoThis article gave a quite a bit more info on the why/how: - https://montanafreepress.org/2023/07/27/what-happened-when-a-tesla-came-to-ekalaka-montana/ https://montanafreepress.org/2023/07/27/what-happened-when-a... Apparently there is a Nema 14-50 (250V 50Amp) plug for RVs, that is usually used for street faires and music events, and was unlocked by chance. Only plug nearby. Looks like Tesla's can connect with a dongle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEMA_connector#NEMA_14 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEMA_connector#NEMA_14
- solar-array 3y agoA front page of local newspaper being about a Tesla driver charging their EV almost made it to the front page of HN :)
- aitchnyu 3y agoI'm spending too much time on Reddit, so I internally yelled "payed" is about ropes in ships and there are no nautical terms in this article.
