Someone please shoot me if I end up using "increased workplace productivity/creativity" as the primary metric to decide whether I should try something new.
- danielbln 3y agoShould I load the gun already in case you'll think about trying a new VCS, SaaS, task/todo/wiki tool or are we talking strictly about ingestible new things?
- stavros 3y agoI do those things because they're fun, not because they'll make my employer more money. Things that aren't fun, I try out at work time.
- danielbln 3y agoPersonally, I try to also have fun when I work, but I understand that that's not everyone's situation.
- stavros 3y agoThat's neither here nor there, though. The argument is "the only time I do unfun things that benefit work is when I'm getting paid for them", not "I never do fun things at work".
- KnobbleMcKnees 3y agoHow frequently do you consider taking psychedelics at work? I suspect I know the answer, and that you can see why that line of reasoning is a bit dishonest
- ZephyrBlu 3y agoWhy? I find that increased workplace productivity/creativity directly translates to increased life productivity/creativity. Which is to say, I get more effective at applying my skills to whatever activity I choose.
- dang 3y agoI don't disagree in principle but: "Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize. Assume good faith." https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
