Soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand
- nullindividual 3y agoIs he going to claim the unpaid debts belong to a company name that doesn’t exist therefore the debts should be discharged?
- clouddrover 3y agoThis is called phoenixing. It's a grubby practice: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_company https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_company https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/phoenix-companies-and-the-role-of-the-insolvency-service/phoenix-companies-and-the-role-of-the-insolvency-service https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/phoenix-companies... https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/sep/25/phoenixing-how-unscrupulous-dealers-rise-debt-free-from-the-ashes-of-failed-companies https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/sep/25/phoen...
- justinhj 3y agoYou genuinely think he will file bankruptcy for Twitter and make a seamless transition to Twitter X? He's talking about rebranding pretty soon (i.e tomorrow) so I don't see how it would be practicable. Not to mention he would lose his advertisers and would be unlikely to be able to replace them.
- clouddrover 3y agoI was talking about phoenixing in general, not whether Twitter will do it in particular.
- 3cats-in-a-coat 3y agoTwitter is currently owned by X Corp. already and all debts and so on are owned by X Corp. I don't think renaming the site would let him claim anything further.

- kaffeeringe 3y agoHe intends to build the american WeChat, so it will become something like XChat... If you want to help him dominate the World like WeChat dominates China, yiu should stay on Twitter.
- kibwen 3y agoWe already have American WeChat, it's called "Android" and "iOS".
- K0balt 3y agoHe’s going to put flames on the Twitter logo, phoenix away all the debt.
- breakyerself 3y agoCall it Twitter, call it X. It's never going to be worth close to 44 billion again.
- 0xy 3y agoEven with Musk being a divisive person, he's a mastermind when it comes to financial engineering. Tesla nearly collapsed several times and has eviscerated every single short sheller who took a run at it, some taking 9 figure losses. It's pretty unwise to bet against Musk.
- aftergibson 3y agoHis handling of Twitter so far doesn’t scream mastermind.
- 0xy 3y agoIf MAUs are up and Threads was a flop, why doesn't it?
- solumunus 3y agoI don’t think Twitter has even 1/100th of the potential Tesla had. It’s a different ball game.

- ksey3 3y agoWe are probably seeing the end of the Ad funded Content Creation golden age (or spam age depending on your perspective). The low interest rate/cheap funding regime allowed everyone to get broadcast tech for free. As cheap funds to keep everything afloat dries up, we realize the Actual value of everyones content is quite low. So now we see all the content based platforms from youtube/netflix/snap/reddit/spotify/fb(layoffs/starting threads) etc and now twitter trying all sorts of new things. Doesn't feel like a big loss cuz this period has surfaced enough number of people worth paying attention too, that there is no great reason to fund all this tech, to find more people worth paying attention too.
- majani 3y agoI thought this too, then I remembered that TikTok is probably going to be the generational company for Gen Z
- fullshark 3y agoI don't agree, there will always be an ad funded content creation platform available, and it will have massive usage with young people (who don't have money). TikTok is the most recent one, another will come if they fail. People want content and don't want to pay for it, and there will be opportunity to sell ads in that environment forever.

- rsynnott 3y ago... I'm having difficulty believing this is serious. I mean, it might be, because it's him; he's not, y'know, very good at this, but abandoning such a valuable brand seems almost unthinkable. Like, at that point, what is _left_, other than a slowly crumbling social graph? Even Facebook never actually dared abandon Facebook as the brand for their main product.
