I don't like these new drugs coming out. What is this? Take a drug for the rest of your life? How about changing your habits? You don't need to eat McDonald's

What is this? Take a drug for the rest of your life? How about changing your habits? You don't need to eat McDonald's every day.
- openair18 3y agoI think it is more complicated than this unfortunately. Studies like this have been coming out for a while now: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4539812/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4539812/ where 1 in 7 or 8 obese are actually able to achieve a healthy weight. These drugs will be game changers

- bradknowles 3y agoSpeaking as a diabetic, I'm looking at either taking at least one insulin shot per day for the rest of my life (basal insulin plus maybe short-term insulin), or maybe one Ozempic shot every week for the rest of my life. I'll definitely take the weekly shots over the daily+ shots. And for people who are obese but not diabetic, I'm willing to bet many of them are pre-diabetic. So, maybe one Ozempic shot per week instead of needing to go on daily insulin shots in the near future. I'd be willing to bet that they would prefer an ounce of preventative as compared to a pound of cure.
- nradov 3y agoHave you attempted to reverse your diabetes through nutritional ketosis? https://www.virtahealth.com/reversediabetes https://www.virtahealth.com/reversediabetes
- bradknowles 3y agoI do generally follow a keto diet, but I also try to stay clear of actual ketosis. Ketosis is extremely dangerous for diabetics. And I would never discontinue or reduce medication for diabetes without guidance or instructions from my Endocrinologist. I do firmly believe that the best medicine is eating the right food, but there comes a point where eating the right food isn't enough. And you have to be very careful when substituting food for medicine.
- nradov 3y agoYou are laboring under some misconceptions and should read through the site I linked above. They have qualified physicians who have worked with many patients to reverse type-2 diabetes largely through nutritional ketosis. (Obviously I'm not suggesting that you just go do it on your own.)
- bradknowles 3y agoI did read the page before commenting. I will discuss the subject with my Endocrinologist, but I am most likely to take their word over that of some possibly random page on the Internet. I have chosen my doctors carefully, and I'm not going to discount their guidance quickly or easily.
- nradov 3y agoVirta Health is not some "random page". Have you read their published peer reviewed studies? Unfortunately, many endocrinologists haven't kept up with the latest developments in the field. It is unwise to take the word of any particular physician as they are far from infallible.
- bradknowles 3y agoI have not read any of their studies. I did not see any such links on the page. OTOH, I'm not qualified to read any of their studies, even if the links had been there. As I said, I will discuss the subject with my Endocrinologist.
