Sag-AFTRA President: “we're in jeopardy of being replaced by machines”
- chews 3y ago"10,000 monkeys and enough time" has been built.
- bshipp 3y agoI use similar analogies to describe AI to friends and family. "When AI attempts to solve a maze, it just smashes into every wall over and over until it inevitably finds its way to the exit." If it wasn't for high-powered graphics cards AI would still be a niche university research subject.
- sneed_chucker 3y agoThat analogy is accurate for traditional search-based AI methods, aka GOFAI. Not so much for neural-net based approaches and the GPU hardware that enables it.

- norwalkbear 3y agoPeak content has been reached. They will lose this battle
- was_a_dev 3y agoIt always suprises me those who have little sympathy for those who's jobs are under threat from AI now, while they assume their own jobs will remain secure

- krapp 3y agoIf I had a nickel for every time someone on HN claimed programming alone was impossible to automate because unlike common labor, theirs was the product of pure intellect, I'd have a lot of nickels. Many of these same people, funny enough, also like to say that artists and creatives don't deserve a living and should suffer because art is an ephemeral, transcendent medium that shouldn't be tainted by commerce. ... probably while sitting in their 10K gamer chair.
- LennyHenrysNuts 3y agoI have very little sympathy for the insufferable. Everyone else who will lose their jobs, I care about deeply.

- marklubi 3y agoThere is so little, quality, original content being produced, it’s just constant sequels and franchise content based on older stories. Come up with some good new stories like they were doing in the late 90’s and early 00’s. Very few original ideas, mostly just rehashed/reshaped content. No wonder they’re scared.
- TheNewsIsHere 3y agoThe issue of originality in what content is produced hardly seems relevant to the actors themselves. That’s much more about the networks and studios, and writers and production companies.
- marklubi 3y agoDoesn't really matter in the whole scheme of things. The actors agree to the content, they are part and parcel.
- deprecative 3y agoYou've successfully placed the role of perpetrator onto victims of the same phenomenon you've identified. Who controls what projects go forward? The studio. They are the arbiters of what content gets the green light. This same phenomenon is found in every industry but particularly these creative sectors. Video games are the same way. Repeats and sequels. Who controls that? Is it the artist? Is it the writer? Is it the voice actor? No. It's the person with the purse strings who demand return on investment. The striking folks are pushing against the folks with power within their industry. Somehow you've inverted the power structure and placed blame on the victims.
- TheNewsIsHere 3y agoI appreciate your reply. I was at a total loss for how to reply to that comment. It made absolutely no sense.
- xodjmk 3y agoA lot of people are just getting tired of Cis-jointed background actors & actresses. They are bored with ordinary "8 fingers + 2 thumbs" type hands, and simple elbow and wrist joints. It's time for us to center non-genetically-conforming articulation.
