There wasn't any real claim the redaction was illegitimate, only that the attorney for the party who wanted to protect it used the wrong technique to protect it. If the journalist wanted to publish the ... above-board way to do it would have been to ask the judge to order an unredacted version filed, or a change in the redactions... which I don't see any reason here a judge would do that.
