I took him more seriously when he was in a shop showing us things and explaining things and really exposing things.
Lately he's just a person on a recliner whining about the world. This doesn't discredit his ideas, mind you, I actually agree with a lot. But there's no more special sauce...anyone could make ranting videos from their recliner. I find the whole format incredibly bizarre and unprofessional...
- alpaca128 3y agoWhat makes you think he isn't exposing things anymore? He just mostly moved from electronics-level videos to showing what corporations and their PR do in general, which makes sense given he's now much more active in the Right to Repair-initiative, which is still the exact same range of topics he covered earlier. Edit: and I guess not having a motherboard in view all the time helps with reaching a larger audience.
- fragmede 3y agoSince you agree with it, what about it doesn't make you feel like he is being a mouthpiece for you? Someone needs to say what he's saying, might as well be him. Mind you, I don't disagree with you, I feel the same way, I'm exploring why the format is just off somehow.
- Remmy 3y agoI'm not sure why it feels so weird either, but it definitely does. I was never a big fan of him personally, but have to agree with a lot of what he says. I think, for me at least, watching him work on a board while saying these things made it more relatable where this feels more like, "Gather round the big comfy chair, children. I cle Louis is going to rant and profanely scream about X, then talk to his cat in a baby voice." Just... Odd.
- dagw 3y agoSomeone needs to say what he's saying, might as well be him. Much like many meetings should be an email, many youtube videos should be 400-800 word essays. If you're going to present that sort of information in an audio-visual form you need add some value above and beyond just the words you say, and I don't feel he does that. I feel the same way several channels I subscribe to, like Gamers Nexus. Every time I watch one of their videos, I always come away thinking "that was some pretty useful information, I'm really glad they put in the work to make it available, I really wish I could have read it in a blog post"
- fragmede 3y agoI like https://youtubetranscript.com/ https://youtubetranscript.com/ for that.
- Latty 3y agoDoes it need to be "professional"? I'm not really a fan of his content, even if I largely agree with his ideas, but I find it a bit weird to expect that, just because anyone could do something doesn't mean it isn't valuable for someone to do it.
- rchaud 3y agoThis guy has been a cut above the hordes of "ranting into camera from my gaming chair" people that have popular channels on Youtube. Shifting from an interesting angle (repair videos w/ discussion) to making predictable rant videos is a step down.
