Google Lens now lets you self-diagnose skin conditions
- dekhn 3y agoI tried this and the results were abysmal (inaccurate for each of my dermatological conditions). Even though they launched it as not intended for diagnosis, I can't really see the point of the product then because people will use it for diagnosis (to decide whether to go to the doctor) and both the high false positive and negative rates will kill trust in the product.
- nmstoker 3y agoWould be interesting to see if they are controlling the red balance effectively. One of the issues I've heard reported frequently about manually interacting with a remote doctor for this kind of task is that the camera on a mobile is optimised to balance colours aesthetically rather than in a highly calibrated fashion - quite reasonably most (white) people prefer not to look overly red-faced but with a skin condition you want the truthful image not the flattering one!
- autoexec 3y agoIt looks like it doesn't let you 'self-diagnose' so much as it sends data to google and let's Google diagnose you. Handing your medical information over to an ad company seems like a terrible idea.
