- moose_man 3y agoNever do your opponent the favor of underestimating them.
- senttoschool 3y agoWhat a sad little life you live - trying to spread anti-China propaganda constantly in a tech forum.
- moose_man 3y agoThe Chinese are saying the same thing - https://archive.ph/krOHt https://archive.ph/krOHt Should only one side be prepared and aware?
- senttoschool 3y agoDo something else with your life.
- moose_man 3y agoI'm not going to bury my head in the sand. Both sides are clearly signaling they are gearing up for war. It's the most important issue in the world right now.
- anonymouslambda 3y agoHacker News Guidelines What to Submit On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to reduce it to a sentence, the answer might be: anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity. Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.
- moose_man 3y agoYeah, but by that definition the majority of highly engaged posts are off topic. How are the two major world powers moving toward conflict less relevant than a lot stuff the here? It effects tech, startups, the economy. If it were to catch on fire, the global semiconductor supply chain would be destroyed.
- anonymouslambda 3y agoYour spamming of HN on a single topic and submission/comment history strongly suggest your interest is pushing an ideological agenda. Also from the guidelines: Please don't use Hacker News for political or ideological battle. That tramples curiosity.
- moose_man 3y agoI just think the possibility of war is the most important issue in the world right now. The less people who are aware of the danger or the more people willfully blind to how close the threshold is to being passed, the more likely we'll autopilot into war.
- WhereIsTheTruth 3y agoHuh.. China population is 1.4 billion, they managed to become a global power in record time, they are totally self reliant and self sufficient, they built their own industries from pharma, to tech, to agriculture, to defense, to space, they developed their own COVID vaccine, they built their own space station (the US still rely on a soviet made one), and they plan a manned moon mission in less than 7 years Not even Germany can pretend having done that The picture you describe is very dishonest
- tycho-newman 3y agoThere are fact-free things on HN all the time. Then there's nuance-free comments like this one which are even more insidious.
- WhereIsTheTruth 3y agoHis comment is a "fact", but mine is a mere "comment"? Facts are facts, whether you like them or not, whether they help with your agenda or not, argumentation and discussion seeks nuance, argument, bring the nuance if you know it, educate your reader, being disingenuous about something doesn't help anybody, it makes them blind, it makes them not able to come up with the conclusion by themselves, they become deviant and defiant When it's one sided and can't be challenged, usually it's called propaganda, or perhaps racism
- dang 3y agoCould you please stop fulminating and/or posting in the flamewar style to HN? It's not what this site is for, and destroys what it is for. We want curious conversation here. If you wouldn't mind reviewing https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and taking the intended spirit of the site more to heart, we'd be grateful.

- rektide 3y agoWhat's worst is that creating & entering external problems/situations - starting conflicts - could be a way to keep political control as the domestic situation keeps degrading. "Eat Bitterness". "Take off the long gown." The Party's messaging to it's people has been extremely stark & sad, and all too reflective of where the country is. China is in a tough tough spot, their economy is really struggling to support their people & to provide basic opportunity. Their domestic scenario is heading towards extremes. Pulling a Putin & starting shit in the world is one way to whip people into line. An expensive in every way means to make demand, create some opportunity for citizens & soldiers. And like Putin, with an aging population, there's a candle burning; waiting around to exercise war-making is not a great option.
- seanmcdirmid 3y agoIt is difficult to tell what is just bluster and what the PRC is really planning to do. I wouldn't listen to their words very closely (doesn't Xi say similar things every year?), rather pay attention to their actions. Chinese people really enjoy their peace dividend, and I don't think Xi's popularity would last anything that threatened that. On the other hand, there are hard liners/true believers to appease.
