Then again maybe the blackout is having a Streisand effect where everyone is checking to see what's down, and perhaps usually traffic is sharded across subreddits that no longer exists
- OGWhales 3y agoIt could be a coincidence, but I can reach new reddit not old.reddit
- puerile86 3y agoI can’t reach either. HN is also slow as well.
- iamthejuan 3y agoHN is also slow from my end, I thought my ISP connection is just slow today.
- ForOldHack 3y agoHN just got two bad requests. Must be all the fallout from xReddit. Good for all the websites whos traffic they stole. Long live HN. <Endrant>
- red-iron-pine 3y agoSame. Lots of timeouts and failures to load.
- mustacheemperor 3y agoBoth work fine on my computer, but won't load on my phone. Same network, too. The front page is almost all posts from 22 hours ago though, not even more recent blackout announcements/etc.
- VWWHFSfQ 3y agoWild guess, but I suspect their feed algorithms as well as caching and sharding strategies made a number of assumptions about the availability of various different kinds of data and now that it's (mostly) no longer in the state they assumed it's wreaking havoc on their internal systems.
- leros 3y agoThat's my thinking too. They might be at 90% usual load but they might have individual data getting 10x the usual load.
- re-thc 3y ago> Considering the timing and the fact they should be under significantly _reduced_ load today It's obviously harder to scale down than to scale up!
