Neither party is interested in reining in spending when in charge, the debt ceiling is only ever threatened to try to extract concessions from the party that holds the White House. The very same Republicans screaming about the national debt today were all too happy to raise the debt ceiling three times under Trump and will eagerly continue to raise it the moment a Republican is back in the White House.
