"Meta said that starting June 4th, the Quest 2 will drop its price by $100 to $299.99 for the 128GB version" Ah, what a deal. The same price it was 1 year ago.

- pavlov 3y agoConsidering 10% inflation in the meantime, that's actually a standard tech price drop.
- travisporter 3y agoAccording to this website it’s really only a $7-8 difference. https://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=300&year1=202206&year2=202304 https://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=300&year1=2022...
- Rebelgecko 3y agoIn the meantime there's been inflation, the CPU and GPU are getting clocked up, and I believe the other SKU of the Quest 2 is the cheapest its ever been
- rchaud 3y agoNot cheap enough considering the competition are light-years ahead in terms of brand recognition. They've lost $15b already, it's shocking that they're trying to break even on hardware instead of subsidizing adoption.
- seanmcdirmid 3y ago> Not cheap enough considering the competition are light-years ahead in terms of brand recognition. Nobody is really competing with Meta in the unwired VR space.
- rchaud 3y agoWaters were sometimes uncharted for a reason.
- seanmcdirmid 3y agoYes. Like those sailors who truly thought the Atlantic Ocean terminated in a sheer cliff before hitting Asia.
- Rebelgecko 3y agoWhich competitors?
- crakenzak 3y ago> the competition are light-years ahead in terms of brand recognition. Who are you talking about?? Not a single brand is as synonymous with VR as Meta & Oculus Quest. In fact, whenever I speak with any non tech focused people about VR they automatically assume I'm talking about the Quest.
- wilg 3y agoThat price is gonna look amazing in a week when Apple announces their weird expensive thing.
- wahnfrieden 3y ago773 ppi vs >4000 ppi
- smoldesu 3y agoAlso internal battery vs external battery. There will be a lot of interesting comparisons to be made once both products hit shelves.
- wilg 3y agoOne dollar per ppi
- CharlesHorsey 3y agoOne inch-dollar per pixel
- ipsum2 3y agoInvalid comparison, the display size doesn't matter because of how lenses work, so the perceived screen size is what counts. VR headsets are typically measured in PPD (pixels per degree). Apple's headset is rumored to be 1.5-2x Quest 3.
- wahnfrieden 3y agono, ppi still matters. it informs headset size and weight and quest 3 is 509 grams vs near half that.
- ipsum2 3y agoMaybe, it depends on the lens design as well.
- TulliusCicero 3y agoIt launched at 299 for the 64GB version, not the 128GB version. Plus, there's actually been quite a bit of inflation since then.
- jjcon 3y agoRecognize that upon launch the 128gb version was $350 - they had a 64gb version that they don’t make anymore that was $300
