Raspberry Pi CEO: Supply should be “unconstrained” in second half of 2023
- rektide 3y ago> The Zero and Zero 2 models should start coming back, Upton said, and buyers should start to see a "substantial recovery" of the 3, 3B+, and 4 models toward the end of this second quarter. The zero2 is easily one of the most useful accessible affordable computing devices on the planet. Hope we indeed see some RISC-V competition, but the integration & capabilities & ease of use of the pi0 2 is just so good. Having them available again will be great.
- madduci 3y agoI decided to take the risk to try an Orange Pi 5 (risk in the sense of less software support compared to RPi 4). The board is extremely powerful and the price tag is very attractive (99€ for the 4GB Model), compared to what are lately the prices for the Raspberry Pi 4 model (similar specs, seen ~160-175€ in Germany, especially on Amazon). The RK3588 is an amazing CPU and running many workloads on it, plus the support for a NVMe drive, makes is a speedy competitor
- imtringued 3y agoIt's not fast enough for basic real time encoding with VP8. RIP cheap hosting dreams.
- rektide 3y agoI pre-ordered too. Have not actually booted it yet though! I should.
- MR4D 3y agoI would really like to see them move to USB-C for their next refresh of each of their products. They could even change the camera connector to USB which would open up some interesting opportunities.
- bald 3y agoI recently needed to buy a raspberry for my hobby project and find one close to retail price via [1] which tracks availability across different online stores. [1] https://rpilocator.com/ https://rpilocator.com/
- fred_is_fred 3y agoThey said the same last fall and unfortunately it's still damn near impossible to buy a 4 without buying a "kit" of random crap that you don't need or paying 80% mark-up on Amazon. Hoping for the best, but remaining suspicious.
