Could the fact that you are not expert at things be the reason you think you are learning from the chatbot? If i ask it anything i am an expert in i can quickly tell it’s a waste of time, but if i ask it in fields i am not, i get tricked into thinking it’s right.
Meaning that while it does appear to be right it does so due to my own ignorance about the topic.

- alexeldeib 3y agoI agree with you about non expert subjects and hallucination/believability. But I disagree about time wasting. I use it to generate boilerplate code in languages I’m less familiar with, but can fill in the gaps. It’s stellar for that use case, scaffolding entire CRUD apps with DB connectors and specific libraries.
- marcosdumay 3y agoThose LLMs have an incredible ability to echo knowledge from their learning set that people can't find otherwise. So, if you keep asking really superficial questions, you will probably get most answers either correct or wrong by some obvious inversion or single change that can be verified easily. don't get me wrong, a chatbox is absolutely the worst interface for that kind of interaction. Search would be much better. But the big search companies seem to use all of their resources to make search worse, while investing heavily on good chatboxes, so we got here.
- Me1000 3y agoI think I can objectively say no. If I'm unfamiliar with a term used in a domain, and ChatGPT tells me what the term is, then I've learned something. If I google it and read a page of stack overflow answers that tells me the same thing just completely out the context in which the information was originally presented then I've also learned something, it just took me a lot longer. The idea that everything the chat bot is saying is wrong is just... well, wrong. You should take it with the same skepticism you would anything else you read on the internet, but I've found ChatGPT4 is still a very valuable tool to have.

So you assume if you are an expert at something you would be so well versed that you couldn't learn new things from a chat bot? If this is the case, then I am not and will probably never be an "expert" by this standard.
- suddenclarity 3y agoNo, he's saying that if he's knowledgeable about a topic, he quickly sees that chatgpt is spouting gibberish. As a beginner, this is more difficult to identify. Hence, you think you're learning.
