From TechCrunch on March 1, 2023: "Starting today, OpenAI says that it won’t use any data submitted through its API for “service improvements,” including AI model training, unless a customer or organization opts in."
So prior to that, they were willing to use your data for model training. Every service may have leaks/security issues, but few say they'll purposely use your data. OpenAI probably should've promised not to use your data from the beginning; it'll be a hard perception to change now.

- amelius 3y agoThey could still use dark patterns and make one employee click a checkbox in an inattentive moment that gives away all the company information.
- SoftTalker 3y agoIs there any case law on whether clicking a checkbox constitutes a legally binding agreement? A dark pattern that tends to provoke an unintentional behavior does not seem to be likely to hold up as "agreement"
- jprete 3y agoIt’s irrelevant to OpenAI because they aren’t actually on the hook for the leak, the employee is.
- choppaface 3y agoThey could still have an oops and use your data anyways. E.g. how Apple copies features from successful iOS apps.
- scarface74 3y agoThrough their API is different than using their web based interface where you specifically have to opt out of allowing them to use your chat for training.
