- themagician 3y agoIt's just the people. They were able to find some truly amazing journalists. Isobel Yeung has put herself into truly insanely dangerous situations to get a unique story time and time again.

- stevev 3y agoI agree. Some of the contents were amazing. Especially for a media company, try and keep those winners.
- reducesuffering 3y agoYep. Vice just released an interview with Isobel in Moscow harshly questioning the Ukrainian child deportation Russian wanted by the International Criminal Court.
- themagician 3y agoI do not understand how she is still alive. IMO she may be the most interesting person alive. Not even hyperbole. With all the places she's been and things she's seen… I can't even imagine. I'm amazed how calm and collected she always seems to be.
- permo-w 3y agothere are only so many times you can write “We Meet [recreational drug] [dealers/takers/producers] in [exotic country]” before people lose interest

- smt88 3y agoTheir culture caught up to them. It was extremely abusive and they paid journalists poorly. My friends did some amazing work for them and got paid almost nothing. They stopped taking Vice jobs and so did everyone else who was talented.
- prepend 3y agoIt seems to me that they ended up being a vicious shitter onner of everything. Every article is so negative for no real reason. I’m surprised they are still in business for while “Dick Amnesia is a Real Thing” [0] might be funny for some, it doesn’t seem that funny to me. I’m not sure what Vice’s value add is over when they seemed to do some actual journalism on the Iraq war and other topics not covered 10-15 years ago. Today they just seem like angry, failed hipsters. And I’m not sure who’s buying that. - reaperducer 3y agoToday they just seem like angry, failed hipsters. And I’m not sure who’s buying that. Pretty much the Spy Magazine of the digital age. With the same result.
- prepend 3y agoMaybe it’s a print vs digital thing where the confines of a magazine force some editorial control. I also liked Vice when it was a zine copying Chunklet like 20 years ago. But something changes for the worse. I liked a certain amount of snark when it was tongue in cheek, but when it’s actually mean it’s just not fun.

- GauntletWizard 3y agoI came here to post https://youtu.be/Ia7fUQXskvA https://youtu.be/Ia7fUQXskvA, but that's less ridiculous than whatever process came up with "Dick Amnesia"
- mock-possum 3y agoGod that’s a trashy article - that’s Cosmo-level stuff. The bit where the woman being interviewed is like making fun of micro penises and guys who shave their pubes?? Grow up, come on. Also I am 100% confident that I could pick every ex partner’s dick out of a lineup. It’s crazy that you wouldn’t be able to, like - you’ve had your hands on it. You’ve had it in your face, you’ve been up close and personal with it - how could you not recognize it after the fact?? What’s the point of sleeping with a guy if you don’t pay any attention to his dick?
- verytrivial 3y agoVice was a purposefully edgy fashion magazine for a few years before pivoting to their understanding of what journalism should be. I think it stayed as a fashion magazine.
- corbulo 3y agoThey got sold by the original owner(the guy who did the North Korea doc). He went to hang out on Rogan and then faded into the background.
