A Bleak Outlook for Manhattan’s Office Space May Signal a Bigger Problem
- danielfoster 3y agoNYC does not have a budget crisis. It has an overspending crisis.
- replygirl 3y agoNYC has been slashing its budget so much for the past few years that the community had to raise a stink to keep the libraries open on weekends.
- GauntletWizard 3y agoBasic services being held hostage for porkbarrel projects is a tale as old as time. It's not just an overspending problem, it's a corruption and grift problem.
- ilaksh 3y agoNew cities should be able to leverage technology to create large buildings as public reconfigurable infrastructure. Especially if you think of them as megastructures that are there to help provide infrastructure and shelter for smaller modular buildings inside. This makes it less likely to end up with a very large building that becomes unusable as society shifts. For existing cities, I wonder if its possible with at least some of these office buildings to change them to residential or mixed-use.
