Ask HN: Does Tech care about mental health? Is it all a farce?
- bell-cot 3y agoSorry, but...at least in America, ~no one cares about mental health unless they are one of those suffering from it. (Or have a loved one suffering, or are a very caring health care provider, or other mostly-obvious situations.)
- logicalmonster 3y agoCrying in the iso-cubes will continue until morale improves. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/amazon-mental-health-box-workers-b1855386.html https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/amazon-men...
- tacostakohashi 3y agoIt's all a farce, like diversity, work/life balance, community engagement, sustainability, recycling, net zero... Investors, clients, and prospective employees demand that companies pretend to care about this, so companies dutifully pretend to care. That can be difficult in practice, so anything that employees do to help keep up appearances is greatly appreciated, so long photos can be taken and hours tracked for the relevant websites and annual reports. Outcomes, on the other hand, are not measured, so there is no need to actually achieve anything in any of these areas, only to create a convincing smokescreen and keep the farce going.
