Mark Zuckerberg Says Meta Will Slow Hiring, Won’t Rule Out Future Layoffs
- antiviral 4y agoMr. Zuckerberg addressed employees in a virtual Q&A session on Thursday, a day after the company completed its latest round of layoffs. Mr. Zuckerberg told employees that approximately 4,000 employees were affected... Mr. Zuckerberg told employees they should not expect more than 1% to 2% year over year “from this point forward.”

- tiedieconderoga 4y ago>“I just kind of think that for where we are in the efficiency that we’re able to get from new technologies, that’s probably the right model to expect going forward and that will be a different operating model and I think we can do it well.” This reads like he might be planning to leverage AI to reduce their headcount requirements. Maybe I shouldn't read into an isolated statement so much, but that would be a very in-character business move for Mark.
- chii 4y agoi mean, it's a good move if it could be done successfully. I just don't think the AI right now is quite there, and using them isn't going to produce the amount of productivity you'd need to replace humans. May be one day, when the output of the AI doesn't need to be vetted by a human, then it would be successful.
- x86x87 4y agoMeta has peaked a long time ago and now is entering myspace territory.
- phendrenad2 4y agoSeems like more of a Yahoo! to me. They have products that are popular, but they're blowing money on crazy ideas like metaverse.
- x86x87 4y agolooks like Yahoo! is still a thing. huh. Could have fooled me that it's long dead. I think it's the first time I heard about it in 2-3 years.
- somedude895 4y agoYahoo is still very popular in Japan, although it's a different company apparently. And Yahoo Finance is still quite big around the world. Apart from that I'm not sure.
- zinekeller 4y ago> although it's a different company apparently No longer affiliated with the other Yahoo, significant stakes are owned by Softbank and Naver.
- zinekeller 4y agoYahoo Finance (https://finance.yahoo.com/ https://finance.yahoo.com/) is a real news bureau, not just some syndicated stuff. In this case, they literally follow the money. (This is of course only discussing the non-Japanese Yahoo, Japan's Yahoo is still widely successful.)
- ulfw 4y agoWho on earth would still want to work for Zuckerberg now? You can't be sure to last any amount of time anyway.
- renewiltord 4y agoHow many Meta days is he planning this summer?
- Rastonbury 4y agoWho is advising him to do piecemeal layoffs. If he wants attrition without severance he is going to lose the best people that way, it's all downhill from there. Cut once and hard and stop making people distracted and fearful for their jobs
