some sites like Reddit have highly aggressive rules against doxing, where they will hand out permanent subreddit bans, or even site-wide bans. For good reason. People think they are "doing justice", but all they are doing is vigilante justice. No different than the pillory of long ago.
Stop it.

- Dylan16807 3y agoIn terms of criminal punishments, is a pillory so bad?
- 2h 3y agoa 10 second internet search would say yes, it is so bad: > They were liable to be pelted by the crowd with rotten eggs and fruit, dead cats and dogs, mud and every variety of filth, and in extreme cases with stones, saucepans and other missiles that caused serious injury. Some were killed or maimed for life. https://historytoday.com/archive/daniel-defoe-put-pillory https://historytoday.com/archive/daniel-defoe-put-pillory
- Dylan16807 3y agoOkay, so the part that was bad was completely different from the part you get in a doxxing?
- Spastche 3y agoreddit admins have banned popular users for posting public WHOIS information. it's ridiculous.
- 2h 3y agoI agree, its ridiculous: https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Sunil_Tripathi#Misidentification https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Sunil_Tripathi#Misiden...
- Spastche 3y agonot the same as my example at all. WHOIS information is already out there, mods on the sub are like "yeah we agree it was wrong, go ahead and ban evade we don't care, the admins fucked up"
- Am4TIfIsER0ppos 3y agoWe did it reddit!
- shitlord 3y agoRemember the time Reddit banned everyone who mentioned that Aimee Challenor (ex-politician expelled from multiple political parties for pedo scandals) was working at reddit?
- Spastche 3y agoI don't remember that but it wouldn't surprise me
- olliej 3y agoIf someone publishes intimate films of some else then why should they expect their own details to be private? Why should the victim not have access to the information about their abuser? Why not the police? I did not say anything about doxxing anyone. I said that the information a porn site has about someone abusing someone else should be made available.
