Elon Musk announced Twitter paid subscription service
- SergeAx 4y agoWhat an awful media manager he turned out to be. Really pitiful. Having his own product on fire and on the way to hell, he is childishly copying Substack in retaliation to their Notes.
- SilverBirch 4y agoI don’t know who would really trust him at this point to put their financial prosperity in his hands beyond the obvious right wing and crypto grifters. And surely he knows he’s burned his credibility too much for this? I feel like you could make a sausage dog CEO of Twitter at this point and people quips be more willing to go along with this. Also strange is he thinks “I’m not taking a cut” is a good deal- substack famously handed massive guarantees to their early big names, going way further than just “no cut”.
- ksherlock 4y agoReportedly, a dog is the CEO of Tw^Hitter now. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1625695877326340102 https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1625695877326340102
- ncr100 4y agoIf it were paid for using currency acquired through using Twitter, I might participate. The value of Twitter is not monetary, to me. But entertainment, specifically watching things fall apart.
- lanstin 4y agoAt least this offering makes basic economic sense, unlike Twitter Blue. Making the platform better for the top accounts instead of worse will keep the free content coming, and the audience laughing or raging or whatever they want.
- BulgarianIdiot 4y agoStart building your subscribers base on the platform that doesn't pay rent and has a set of lawsuits pending by creditors. And changes drastically on a whim about once a week. Like say for example maybe he decides a tweet that mentions battery fire shadowbans you, or whatever. People who bite, deserve their fate.
- gsatic 4y agoMeta, Google/YouTube, Snap all have seen big drops in ad revenue. People are saying it's just temporary, but made me wonder what if we pass some sort of peak advertising moment? Cuz attention is finite. Smartphone market is saturated. So much content has been produced much of it is not even consumed. Are we going to get free stuff forever?
- BulgarianIdiot 4y agoAd revenue always drops when we go from QE into rising rates and preparing for a recession. I think paying a small fee for social media is fine, but not this hot garbage. It should be like paying for phone service, and no ads, no algorithms, no a manipulation, just reliable service. Unfortunately, Elon Musk may turn the entire industry away from this if they see Twitter crash and burn while trying to implement it.
- TobyTheDog123 4y agoThis is good in concept, but I simply just do not trust him to deliver. I think follower/audience portability is super important, as is revenue sharing, but this is coming from the guy who literally replaced search queries for "substack" with "newsletter", and search-banned a guy who went to a competitor. He's not letting his users go anywhere, it's all talk.
