Oh, c'mon, “purl” was right there!
- Izkata 4y agoGiven what it does, and to avoid confusion with perl, "transform url" seems more reasonable. Though I probably would have gone with "turl" so it's easier to pronounce.
- enneff 4y agoIt seems like a nod to the “tr” command.
- jcul 4y agoYup, I guessed the same, and indeed it explicitly states so in the blog post linked by another commenter. > trurl is a tool in a similar spirit of tr but for URLs. Here, tr stands for translate or transpose.
- obelos 4y agoThough it hardly gets any use because s/// is so much more flexible, Perl also has a tr/// builtin that replicates the behavior of the command line tool.
- twic 4y agoI wonder if the name is a Lem reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cyberiad https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cyberiad
- sidpatil 4y agoThat would collide with this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistent_uniform_resource_locator https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistent_uniform_resource_...
