I feel like working nuclear fusion would be the most important point in the history of human beings (if we get to it), even more important than an AGI. Limitless cheap energy, if available to everyone, would be a dividing line in human history.
- anovikov 4y agoI can't imagine it ever becoming cheaper than renewables. Just because fusion power is same thing as coal power powered by free coal. If you take the cost of coal electricity and subtract the cost of coal that went to producing it, it's still more costly than wind or solar simply for the running cost of boilers, condensers, heat exchangers, circulation pumps, turbines, generators and transformers. All of that will still stay the same with the fusion power.
