- paxys 4y agoI don't care about the lack of design frills on a webpage (in most cases it is preferable), but having to make sense of a wall of text stretching from edge to edge of a 4K screen is where I draw the line. Adding one line of CSS to set more readable column widths should be the bare minimum.
- jrockway 4y agoWhy should the designer pick how wide you want the text? You are the one who knows what you like, and you can resize the browser window.
- quest88 4y agoWhy should the designer design. Brilliant.

- handsclean 4y agoThis is actually why I serve soup on a plate. Only my guests know what bowls they like, and they can pour the soup into a bowl of their choice.
- e12e 4y agoBecause the designer of today needs to wear the hat of yesteryear's typesetter (among many other hats)?
- tasuki 4y agoDo you resize the browser window differently for each website you visit? I want my text no wider than 80 characters, but I like the images to be potentially much wider than that. What is your solution?
- foldr 4y agoFor all websites to be designed with your preferences in mind?
- Lio 4y ago> Why should the designer pick how wide you want the text? You are the one who knows what you like, and you can resize the browser window. Along with all the other answers here, given that this is a Rails adjacent I would say Convention Over Configuration. I like a basic text oriented page myself but sensible defaults would be useful. If the user wants to override the CSS in their browser they can do.
