Why programmers burnout into existential depression
- yanko 4y agoEach task has the property to complicating over the time exceeding the capabilities of the one who solves it
- passion__desire 4y agoYou know too much psychology, when you can't get mad because you understand everyone's reasons for doing everything.
- superpope99 4y agoI think this is just the flipside of Moore's law and the exponential progress of computing across the last 70 years. I don't think you can realistically expect the benefits of rapid progress without the downsides of chaos and instability. A world where all programs worked correctly for ever would probably be... a very stagnant world. Maybe we shouldn't wish for it
- freetonik 4y agoThe chaos and instability reduce the pace of progress. I would say you can’t realistically expect rapid progress without a healthy degree of stability.
- superpope99 4y agoIt's all a matter of degree - of course complete chaos is antithetical to progress.
- jackblemming 4y agoI miss the days of being able to actually program the damn thing instead of dealing with a million terrible dependencies and shitty YAML configs! Amen!
- jmclnx 4y agoYou and me both, and I will add json/xml to the list of "crappy" formats. Bring back flat files :)
- karmakurtisaani 4y agoJSON is more or less ok, since there's no straightforward way to store objects anyway. Xml on the other hand should burn in hell.
- huijzer 4y agoThere are languages with great package managers and conservative package maintainers who do not add a package for every little thing
