Some countries and cities in Europe have put the ban in place well before 2035:

Amsterdam by 2030, and the Netherlands as a whole is trying to do it by 2025.
edit: Fascinating to me that pointing out basic facts is worthy of downvoting.
- bombcar 4y agoVatican City State can't have more than few dozen vehicles, so it would cost at most a few million to be the first EU state to go completely fossil-fuel-free on their transport fleet. Electrification of their railway station could be a cost, but it's so short you might be able to use a long enough train that the locomotive never enters the sovereign area.
- eCa 4y agoThe Vatican isn’t in the EU.
- bombcar 4y agoTrue, you could elide by using something like "first country on the Euro" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_See–European_Union_relations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_See–European_Union_relati...
- petodo 4y agoVatican is not even in the Eurozone. Just because it use euro it doesn't make it in eurozone, there are plenty of countries which are using euro without being eurozone members.
- AdamN 4y agoI upvoted you - HN is becoming more like /r/cars and Trumplandia every day and I'm not sure exactly what is going on.
- TheLoafOfBread 4y agoPeople are getting older and more conservative.
- AdamN 4y agoScarily I think it's the opposite, more young people are joining and that's the way they think.
- petodo 4y agoPeople are downvoting you probably because even the article you link contradict nonsense you say: your article: "(City of) Amsterdam Announces A Ban On Fossil Fuel Vehicles From 2030" you: "And the Netherlands as a whole is trying to do it by 2025." Last time I checked Amsterdam was in Netherlands.
- _edmb 4y agoNo contradictions anywhere. Indeed, Amsterdam is in the Netherlands. Amsterdam has passed a rule first, with the rest of the country trying to do the same and more aggressively. > The gasoline and diesel car ban in the Netherlands will start in the city of Amsterdam Plenty of other info out there: > Dutch State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management has announced she is looking into options for banning combustion engines in lease cars in the Netherlands from as early as 2025. https://www.iamexpat.nl/expat-info/dutch-expat-news/new-eu-climate-policy-bring-end-diesel-and-petrol-cars-2035 https://www.iamexpat.nl/expat-info/dutch-expat-news/new-eu-c...
- petodo 4y agoLooking into options ≠ approved ban. I'm looking into options becoming millionaire. Also last time I checked when something start in 2030, then others can't follow it earlier.
- _edmb 4y ago> Looking into options ≠ approved ban. I'm not sure why I'm even bothering to reply to this nonsense, but what I said was clearly: > Netherlands as a whole is trying to do it by 2025. This site is turning into reddit fast.
