Tim Cook, I have a Mac obsession
In 2022, I purchased three M1 machines; two Macbook Pro M1 Pros, and a M1 Studio Max.
I've also invested more than 4 months salary into Apple and I am proud of it.
My primary use case is software development and experimentation (mostly in the realm of WebRTC high-fidelity audio streaming between peers on ad-hoc networks we set up).
The M1 Studio is colocated in Wisconsin and I am in Nicaragua. I've rented various Macs from macminivault.com over the past 2.5 years and decided it would be more economical to just buy a new Studio and ship it to them.
Absolute phenomenal experience.
I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has this Mac obsession like I do, or perhaps I'm just crazy.
I could care less about any of their other technology. Just the Macs, but I love Apple Music as well.

- mejutoco 4y agoIf it works for you. I try not to have a fetish for powerful machines, and treat them as tools. Sometimes it is difficult, when looking at some GPUs etc. but overall it works. If you need a tool for work or personal hobby and can afford it, why not.

- jzombie 4y agoAs I'm in Nicaragua, the power quality isn't always the best here, plus I wanted a decent server where I could run basically any software I wanted to on. It's not a huge trade-off for me running it remotely. I primarily connect to it over SSH, but often use NoMachine if I want to interact w/ the UI.

- jzombie 4y agoI feel the same. If there's anything I wish I had done more, it probably would have been getting the 64GB version of the Studio instead of the 32GB. I run a lot of VMs on it, including a Mac VM that is used to run some GitHub Actions on as a build target for some WebRTC stuff. But even if the memory pressure gets high along w/ CPU usage doing some video encoding, the system stays as responsive as ever.
