- nonethewiser 4y agoThere is no shortage of immigrant supply though. The US is already using immigration to grow.
- randomdata 4y agoWhich means that there is no mass benefit to producing children domestically. There is individual benefit to producing children domestically, sure, but why would the masses care to provide for the benefit of an individual?
- cudgy 4y agoSo that the masses are supported by the younger when they retire through contributions to public pension like social security?
- randomdata 4y agoThe comment before just got finished saying that there is an endless supply of immigrants willing to do that…
- cudgy 4y agoAn endless supply? Other countries require workers to support their elderly as well. Are the immigrants going to leave their elderly behind to starve and suffer with no support from their younger generations? Or will they bring their elderly with them, nullifying the benefits?

- randomdata 4y agoGood questions, but you must have pressed the wrong reply button again. This is beyond the scope of this thread branch and not subject matter I have knowledge of. I already pointed out this error in the previous comment.
- etempleton 4y agoThere is quickly becoming a shortage of workers. There are two mechanisms to cover that gap: 1. Encourage families to have more children (this takes time) 2. Increase the by country limits on immigration. This has varied over time (https://www.migrationpolicy.org/programs/data-hub/charts/Annual-Number-of-US-Legal-Permanent-Residents https://www.migrationpolicy.org/programs/data-hub/charts/Ann...)
- cratermoon 4y agoHowever, there are powerful political forces against immigration as a way to increase the population. That's before we even get to the extremist racist "great replacement" resistance to immigration.
- cudgy 4y agoToo much immigration is destabilizing to both the receiving and losing countries.
- cratermoon 4y agoIt certainly destabilized the indigenous societies of the Americas, starting in the 16th century.
- cudgy 4y agoThat more closely resembles an invasion than immigration, but it is an extreme form of immigration I guess.
