Oracle changing Java SE license per user [pdf]
- mikece 4y agoI don't get it: won't this just encourage the abandonment of Java?
- merb 4y agonah most people use openjdk or other vm's. java se needed a license for a long time anyway (since 9 or so) and basically openjdk includes everything that you need except some premium features like graalvm enterprise and other stuff. java se is based on openjdk and includes more stuff basically. java se also offers long support (I think they even offer java8 support) alternatively you can get longer support via adoptium which was born when java 9 was released because oracle only wanted to give support for 6 months for openjdk (they changed that and the license back and forth and now all people use openjdk and other distributions)
- mfiguiere 4y agoThis doesn't apply to OpenJDK, only to their enterprise distribution.
- wmfiv 4y agoThis is the price sheet for Oracle's commercial Java distribution. You're almost certainly not using this and instead using an open source distribution of OpenJDK provided by Eclipse, Amazon, Azul, etc.
