My parents/grandparents/brother wouldn't ever know they NEED to unlock the thing before selling it. THAT'S the problem. The people Apple markets most strongly towards have no idea this is an issue or part of the device transfer process.
Forget stolen, the idea that you have to go back to the original vendor to transfer a product is anathema to the prior 100 years of product purchasing experience.
Why isn't this an infringement of the "First Sale Doctrine"?
- ezfe 4y agoWhen your grandparents are selling a laptop and they don't know what is needed to be done, the buyer should be verifying the device is in a suitable manner for purchase. Bare minimum, turn it on and sign in to verify it works. If they're recycling it, the recycling company should tell them "hit the reset button before sending it to us" and take the 2 seconds upon receiving it to verify, rather than waiting to learn a month later when the owner isn't known.
