- amelius 4y agoThey could get multiples of that $10B back if they sold it to investors now. Remember, in today's world you don't even need a viable product to make loads of money.
- funstuff007 4y ago> They could get multiples of that $10B back if they sold it to investors now. Maybe so, but MSFT is not a mark-to-market / opportunistic trader.
- Avalaxy 4y ago> MSFT will never get that $10 billion back Easily. By integrating it into their developer tools, office suite, Azure, Dynamics, etc. You can automate/support SO many tasks with the toolsuite that OpenAI offers. In addition to that, the way I understand it they can simply make money by licensing others to use those tools. They already started offering the OpenAI services through Azure.
- otabdeveloper4 4y agoI assume ChatGPT will cost around $1 per query for consumers. That's low enough to put human copywriters out of business, but high enough that I don't ever see regular humans pay for it for day-to-day tasks. So eventually this is some sort complex of B2B product, and that is very difficult to execute.
- scarface74 4y agoYou’re literally off by an order of magnitude. Each query costs around 1 cent from every article I’ve seen. > but high enough that I don't ever see regular humans pay for it for day-to-day tasks. And “640K ought to be enough for anyone”. Of course this will get cheaper over time as compute gets cheaper and the cloud providers design custom chips optimized for it.
- otabdeveloper4 4y ago"Query" is ambiguous, because ChatGPT runs on "tokens", not "queries". In real life you will want an order of magnitude more tokens if you're generating something useful and not just testing/playing. Compute doesn't get cheaper over time, it gets more expensive. This isn't 1993 anymore.
- funstuff007 4y agoIt's only getting more expensive because we've let AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure own all the machines.
- CyberDildonics 4y agoPeople are using it now for free, why would it cost $1 ?
- Jensson 4y agoIt is a free trial.
- raverbashing 4y agoChatGPT will start charging for some features, I think MS will get that $10Bi in a shorter time than expected
- throwaway2214 4y agoshutterstock just introduced shutterstock AI partnering with dall-e they will get it back quite quickly
