Thanks for the recommendation. I just tried it out.
Nitter + an RSS app like Vienna is a neat solution for replacing Twitterrific on desktop.
The UX isn't as good, particularly with quote tweets just showing up as links instead of embedded in context.
Also I had to write a quick browser hack so if I open a tweet from the RSS reader to Nitter it will make it so there is a link to the original Tweet from Nitter so I can actually interact with the tweet (like, reply, etc).
But it works, it lets me see things chronologically, and it tracks which are read and unread. Thanks!
- WithinReason 4y agoFeedbro shows the tweet quoted as well. It's also the best RSS reader I've found.
- kethinov 4y agoHave you run into problems with nitter.net rate-limiting you? I added about 60 subscriptions and they frequently don't load. I suspect I'm probably overusing the service... Edit: looks like this could be a good solution: https://twiiit.com https://twiiit.com
- WithinReason 4y agoI also use this add-on that redirects you to a random Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/privacy-redirect/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/privacy-redir... You might need to manually remove the ones that don't work. It's still better than using the Twitter website :)
- kethinov 4y agoFor sure. This setup is hacky as hell but it works well, so I'm sticking with it. :)
