The State Department wants memos written in Calibri now, not Times New Roman

- gnicholas 4y ago> PS: I don’t want to hear about fonts vs. typefaces; I know the difference and do not care because I want the average reader to actually understand what I’m talking about.
- netsharc 4y agoWell, that tells me how he feels about his/The Verge's average reader, that they're too stupid to be educated about what the difference between the two is.
- roarcher 4y agoMost people probably don't know the difference. That doesn't make them stupid or uneducated, it just means they're probably not familiar with graphic design (why would they be?). The author is merely defending his choice to use the more familiar term against pedants.
- netsharc 4y agoMaybe I'm old-fashioned, but if I read the news I don't mind learning something new. He could've used "typeface" and added a 1-sentence explanation at his first use of the term. Readers probably would appreciate getting a new piece of trivia. And those who already knew that can also have a little "I knew that!" proud moment.
