Wyoming is set to BAN sales of new electric vehicles by 2035
- api 4y agoThe date gives this away as some kind of ridiculous political posturing. By 2035 gasoline cars will be <20% of all auto sales.
- _zzaw 4y agoThat was pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Get the political points now, but conveniently schedule the actual action sufficiently far into the future that it doesn't involve any real action or political risk. Still, there's probably a whole stateful of habitually angry guys thumping their bar tables right now and saying "Yeah!!"
- bediger4000 4y agoI believe your last sentence describes Wyoming.
- anonym29 4y agoThis is mostly political posturing. Wyoming is one of the most conservative states in the country, with a tiny population, extremely low population density, very basic infrastructure, and massive oil/gas industry - perhaps one of the worst places for EVs in the lower 48, so it's not like they were going to be common in the first place. Further, the WY state legislature is sending a copy of the bill to California and NY (either legislatures or governors, I forget which).
- anigbrowl 4y agoInteresting story out of Wyoming, but surely we can do better than Daily Fail GOTCHA reporting, with it's formulaic approach of capitalizing the most emotive word in the headline. Sorry, but I judge people negatively if they habitually submit content from low-quality news outlets.
- _zzaw 4y agoArs covered this a few days ago: https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/01/wyoming-republicans-take-a-stand-want-to-ban-electric-cars/ https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/01/wyoming-republicans-tak... This is one of those stories where it's every bit as ridiculous as it sounds.
- hackrnusr 4y agoWish other states would follow its lead. The extra weight of electric vehicles is far more dangerous than another degree or two of global warming.
- defrost 4y agoBetween 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250 000 additional deaths per year, from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and heat stress. ~ https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/climate-change-and-health https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/climate-cha...
- hackrnusr 4y agoYeah, right. If only all of those cows would just stop farting the Earth would cool down mighty quick wouldn't it?
- powerbroker 4y agoI've driven across Wyoming three times in an EV. About 5 years ago, when I first tried it, I cam to a Tesla charger with minor vandalism to two of the ports. The last visit, I tried to locate a 12V battery replacement for a 2018 Model X. Three tries, at shops in one of their towns, and I cam up with nothing. A short 1 hour drive back to Colorado got it replaced that day. In winter, the interstates can get completely closed... I don't know, for days? Maybe a local can give some stories. I'm not sure I'd want to own an EV in Wyoming.
