"the butterfly keys were trash"
The butterfly keys were a brilliant system that was objectively better than the keys they replaced (and were in turn replaced by). Unfortunately, people preferred the "feel" of the old keys (myself included). They also broke constantly and expensively in the early generations (although Apple picked up the tab on this in the end).

- adgjlsfhk1 4y ago"They were a brilliant system" yes. They were great at getting people to buy new laptops when their old ones broke.
- esskay 4y agoJokes on Apple. They replaced mine 4 times under UK consumer law, each time needing to give me practically a whole new laptop shell.
- highwaylights 4y agoSee? Best laptops ever.
- highwaylights 4y agoFair. Still miss mine. I do not miss the anxiety.
- vehemenz 4y agoIt's an unpopular view, but I agree. As a touch typist who doesn't eat at my computer, I never experienced the key sticking issue. I use the HHKB full time now, but if I had to use the stock keyboard, my first choice would the 2016 butterfly keyboard (pre-membrane).
- John23832 4y agoThe modern keys are orders of magnitude better for typing. The low profile butterfly keys were just not durable. I have large hands and often bottom out on keys/keyboards. I went though three macbooks in two years at my last job. The new macbooks, I have no problem.
