It's all money.
Houses weren't allowed to collapse when they were overinflated, and here we are with the highest house-to-income ratio in ages and ages.
If you can't have a house, you can't have kids.
Then there's daycare and college savings. Also at the highest ever.
Post agrarian kids already can't make any money for years and years, so we make fewer of them.
But maybe the biggest problems is the precariousness of it. When you have kids, you need to not lose your job. Even more so when stuff costs loads.
Want more kids? Subsidize kids. The US has the world's biggest and baddest military. If you want lots of kids pay for that as well.
- JustSomeNobody 4y agoThe US spends 3X as much as the next highest spending nation (China) on military. 3 TIMES as much. We have got to get that under control.
- scottLobster 4y agoNo we don't. Especially given China is a potential military adversary, and they're on the opposite side of a giant ocean from us. Also the US military budget is not standing in the way of increased domestic spending. We just need to treat other areas of government with the same reverence as the military, and we partially do (look how badly every attempt to cut Social Security fails).
- thatfrenchguy 4y ago> If you can't have a house, you can't have kids. I mean, yes, you can have kids without a house in a condo/apartment, people do it every day in cities around the world and the US. The American obsession with single family detached housing where you think you need a big house that you use 20% of and a yard that your kids spend almost no time in is what got us in this mess in the first place.
- lordnacho 4y agoIt's not just an American thing. Just about everyone who doesn't have kids needs a bigger place when they have kids, whether that's a bigger apartment, palace or mud hut.
