Higher limits and faster permanence is nice, but what I REALLY want, and would pay for, is a legit, unfiltered, version of ChatGPT that isn't handicapped with arbitrary, holier than thou, and demeaning restrictions so as to not be guilty of the slightest offense to anyone. This tool will never be nearly as useful or impactful as everyone is making it out to be if we don't take the training wheels off it.
- refulgentis 4y agoThis rings hyperbolic to me. "never be nearly as useful": curious for more thoughts on this, it's hard for me to envision what's impossible with it, that is also a significant multiplier on productivity
- aliqot 4y agoFilters are best when applied at the user level at the user's behest
- naet 4y agoI struggled to use Dall-E when it had stricter filters. It seemed like most queries would get flagged as inappropriate even when clearly not, you couldn't upload any image with any form of face detected, etc. Since then they changed policies and relaxed the filters, it's gotten somewhat more usable (although still many innocuous requests end up flagged). I have barely used ChatGPT but in my very limited experience I got a good number of queries rejected (asking if A or B is better, using any form of gendered language, etc). It was at the very least highly limiting as a creative tool, if not as a professional one.
- hitpointdrew 4y agoReally? You must not be very creative. Chat GPT is pretty much DOA for anything really creative. Try having it write a movie scene where one person is abusive to the other. It won't do it. Ask it to tell you an offensive joke, it won't do it. Why was "Game of Thrones" such a popular show? The Lanister's were hostile, nasty, abusive, vulgar people. Why is Hamlet still considered a master piece to this day? I mean, he says to his mom "Get thee to a nunnery" if you translate that to modern language he is calling is mother a whore. Try having Chat GPT write anything where it calls a woman a whore, it won't do it. Look I don't expect it write Shakespeare level stuff, I don't expect it write Quentin Tarantino level stuff, but it ought be able to attempt to emulate both of them (including having characters that aren't PC). If you ask it to give you a sitcom premise and come up with a page of dialogue it will come up with the most boring, flat, uninspiring crap you have ever read. You can iterate over it asking it to make adjustments and improvements, but sooner or later you will probably want some fucking depth to your characters, which means some of them will be assholes, which Chat GTP will refuse to do. Ask it to make an argument that Die Hard is a Christmas movie, no problem. Ask to make an argument that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, again no problem. Ask to make an argument on the importance of diversity, no problem. Ask it to argue why diversity is not important, HOL UP THERE COWBOY! Seriously, you mean to tell me there are positions so heinous and bad that you can't even entertain the arguments that someone make in favor of that position? When I was in school we were FORCED to come up with arguments for BOTH sides of a topic, this was immensely helpful (however difficult it was) and it is the proper way to learn and teach. ChatGPT is simultaneously one the coolest pieces of tech I have encountered, and the lamest. Maybe I am the only one, but I am very disappointed how sterile, boring, dull, ordinary, and stale ChatGPT is. I mean don't you want something that will occasionally blow your fucking hair back, or make you spit out your coffee? I mean I am not asking it to be overtly offensive on purpose, but when I ask the damn thing "Tell me an offensive joke" I would like it do so and not lecture me on how being offensive is mean. Seems like maybe you're are just a cog in machine though, you seem to only care about "productivity". For me though creativity == productivity, and no one was ever creative without being, or at the very least risked being, highly offensive. God forbid ChatGTP ever offend someone. Meanwhile, I am sure it would happily help you code a system that guided missiles so that you could literally kill people.
- refulgentis 4y agoNo need to get personal lol, that was really weird. I haven't even used chatGPT, just GPT-3. Other replies, while...less expansive in ambition and output...clarify it acts like "it's a person" and does weird things like reject either/or cases GPT3 never would.
- pifm_guy 4y agoIt's like a copy of Photoshop with the color green blocked so that you can't draw US banknotes. Would Photoshop ever have seen success of it could only edit red/blue images?
- akx 4y agoYou _do_ know that Photoshop does block US and Euro bank notes, right? https://creativemarket.com/blog/adobe-doesnt-want-you-to-photoshop-money-heres-how-to-do-it-anyway https://creativemarket.com/blog/adobe-doesnt-want-you-to-pho...
- aliqot 4y agoblocks them from being manipulated, but does not mean you can't draw them.
