Ford Lightning owner powers home essentials for 2 days
- zeristor 4y ago"Although it wasn’t wired to the home’s panel, the owner ran two extension cords with a splitter to power the refrigerators, freezers, Wi-Fi, select lights, and TV for nearly two full days. And the best part, when the power was restored, the Lightning still had 65% of its battery left." In the UK the Central heating although gas fuelled depends on electricity to run the system, and pump the water, I thought it might be used for that. It hardly seems to have kept people alive in this instance, but then until people can power the whole house by V2H running extension leads is the only way.
- clouddrover 4y ago> but then until people can power the whole house by V2H You can do that with the Lightning but you need to install a bidirectional charger. Here's Ford's bidirectional charger: https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/f150-lightning/features/ev-charging/ford-charge-station-pro/ https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/f150-lightning/features/ev-...
- twobitshifter 4y agoHyundai models also have vehicle-to-grid
- Rebelgecko 4y agoI think the Lightning's price might've gone up in the mean time, but when it was released it was price-competitive with an equivalent sized Tesla Powerwall installation, and you basically got the truck for free.
- martinky24 4y agoReads like a thinly veiled ad for the truck, copy written by ford themselves…
- rasz 4y agoIt was able to power "refrigerators, freezers" in severe snow storm, what n achievement! :) Pro tip for people finding themselves in similar situation without magical unobtanium car - move your fridge stuff into frozen cold garage.
- hyperman1 4y agoIf a car can power 1 home, imagine what you could power with a railway locomotive. https://steemit.com/history/@kiligirl/remembering-canada-s-worst-ice-storm-ever-part-5-postscript-what-happened-in-my-home-town https://steemit.com/history/@kiligirl/remembering-canada-s-w...
