Tell HN: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Hope your 2023’s great. I’m sorry for all of you that were laid off or affected by the virus or lockdowns. Next year will be better! Keep the faith!
- college_physics 4y agoThe internet is broken and tech is broken but for as long there are talented people with an open mind and a warm heart there is hope. There are plenty of those in this platform. Lets program the future we want. Best wishes to all.

- mrleiter 4y agoI love this community. I have been on here years and it became one of the very few forums where I decided to finally stop lurking and make an account. It is extremely well moderatet, the discussion are on an amazing level. Topics are fantastic. To all of you: thank you so much and a very merry christmas! I hope you are doing fine.
- saiya-jin 4y agoOn top of all you mention, what I like is vast broad perspective on practically any topic. History, politics, warfare, ultra deep sciences, geeky computer stuff, law, surveillance, travelling... name it, and discussion will get deep pretty quickly. Even disagreements are done in a very mature way (I still think Dang is some prototype AI, I cant imagine what will happen if he goes for 2 weeks off). I must admit, I come here much more for community discussions rather than articles linked.
- kaptainscarlet 4y agoI rarely read the articles linked. Instead, I find myself getting lost in the tangential threads which have little to nothing to do with the article.
- mathieuh 4y agoYeah usually the articles are just jumping-off points for related discussions, which is perfectly fine in my opinion
- mettamage 4y agoThis is the way. Many people will go through this rite of passage. I fondly remember the times when I did read all the articles. Perhaps not coincidentally, those are also the times when I was a broke college student.
- tester457 4y agoImo it's a bad habit that a lot of us that don't read the article and go straight into the discussion.

- srge 4y agoJoyeux Noël from France <3
- s-xyz 4y agoDoes anyone have a map of which countries celebrate Xmas (first day) on 24 and which ones on 25?
- drumhead 4y agoUK 25th, but the 26th is a holiday called Boxing Day.
- camhart 4y agoGermany 24th Usa 25th
- defrost 4y agoEven without the alternate dates Christmas lasts longer than 48 hours .. So that poses a question, just how long does Christmas day last for, from the first moment at the first place to the last moment at the last place about the globe? Merry Christmas all.
- Stratoscope 4y agoWhen I was a kid, we advanced Christmas by 12 hours each year. Where "Christmas" is defined as "when can we open our presents?" At first, it was the morning of the 25th. The next year, we asked "Please, can we open one present on Christmas Eve?" And so we did, that night. The year after that, it was "What about the morning of Christmas Eve? Just one, please?" You can figure out the next year. "The evening of the 23rd? Please?!?" Maybe the real lesson is that Christmas can be every day of the year. Every day that you hope something wonderful can happen.
- randomsearch 4y agoMerry Christmas everyone, even those who argued with me despite clearly being incorrect :-) thanks for continually challenging and educating me, HN. I know of no better way to keep track of trends and hear other opinions.

- franze 4y agoMerry Christmas. If you are still looking for a Christmas read or present to give to your startup friends, my book about systematic SEO (think SEO for system thinkers) is today free on Amazon/Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L3BSQHG https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L3BSQHG 46 reviews, 4.3 starts The books goal is to make all SEO companies redundant, so I think its a great gift for really anyone.
- friendly_chap 4y agoCan't decide if this is parody or real! Bro.
- diimdeep 4y agoI am huge fan of SomaFM, so here is awesome, and somewhat endless NY music in different styles. Crafted by 7" Soul's DJ Dion "The Watts" Garcia, this is a mix of classic soul holiday tracks. Some extremely rare, some holiday standards, but all of it combines to make a special holiday soul experience. https://somafm.com/jollysoul/ https://somafm.com/jollysoul/ SomaFM's wacky and eclectic holiday mix. Not for the easily offended. For people tired of traditional holiday music. From the offensive, raunchy and nasty to the silly and childish, a mix of music for Hanukkah, Kwanza, Winter Solstice and of course Christmas. You'll probably get in trouble if you listen out loud at the office, but it might be worth it just to offend your annoying co-workers. https://somafm.com/xmasinfrisko/ https://somafm.com/xmasinfrisko/ Indie/Alternative meets traditional/classic rock'n'roll music all about the holidays. From The Beach Boys and Bob Dylan to Belle & Sebastian and Sufjan Stevens, make your holiday season rock this year. Uncensored, but shouldn't be offensive to anyone but the most uptight haters of rock'n'roll. https://somafm.com/xmasrocks/ https://somafm.com/xmasrocks/ For fans of Groove Salad, Lush and downtempo/lounge music fans in general, this is the perfect holiday radio. Christmas classics redone in a chilled-out manner make for a stress-free holiday. https://somafm.com/christmas/ https://somafm.com/christmas/ Holiday Elevator Music from a more innocent time. A Department Store Christmas features beautiful music (also known as elevator music) renditions of Christmas and Holiday classics. https://somafm.com/specials/ https://somafm.com/specials/

- fhd2 4y agoHappy holidays everyone! This is probably the one community I actively participate in. I love the range of topics, the range of opinions, the quality of most comments and the conduct. When I want to really understand something that's going on, my first stop is to find the HN comment thread for it. That says a lot :)
- aquir 4y agoMerry Christmas everyone! HN is a place that I visit multiple times every day! Trying to contribute a bit more as well!
- aidomi 4y agoMerry Christmas and Happy New Year! I was a lurker for over ten years but recently made an account. I've always learnt something new from here, and not just related to computing. I owe a significant part of my career to some of the ideas that were sparked from reading links on HN over the years and I've grown fond of this site and the community that sustains it.
- flippinburgers 4y agoMerry Christmas!
- Aeolun 4y agoMerry Christmas all

- hestefisk 4y agoHappy holidays for the non-religious / atheists of you out there!
- dodola 4y agoMerry Christmas
- sillysaurusx 4y agoI’d like to take a moment to wish the depressed people a merry Christmas specifically. It’s okay if you don’t feel like celebrating, or if your life feels like a trainwreck. Next year can be a little better than this one was. It’s a combination of two things: optimism, and (the right) medication. I wasn’t able to become optimistic until I got the latter, so I remember how bleak the holidays often felt. Things will get better, and so will you. Take care of yourself.
- michens 4y agoAbsolutely fantastic year, even though I got laid off for the first time in my life! Merry Christmas everyone.
- ketzu 4y agoHappy holidays and get well into the new year. Or, as we say in germany: Frohe Weihnachten und guten Rutsch!
- michaelsbradley 4y agoYou Who gladden us year after year with the expectation of our redemption, grant that we, who now welcome with joy Your only-begotten Son as our Redeemer, may also gaze upon Him without fear when He comes as our judge, our Lord Jesus Christ. — Collect, In Vigilia Nativitatis Domini
- simonebrunozzi 4y agoYes, I want to be thankful for what I have found here on HN. A great community, and a few friends (lived in SF 2012-2020, high density of HNers there), as well as the biggest productivity sink I will ever experience in my life :) Have a nice 2023 fellas. Let's try to make the world slightly better with our individual actions, if we can.
- nickdothutton 4y agoAppropriate moderation. Low agreeability people who disagree in a civilised manner. Willingness to test hypothesis and to have their hypothesis tested. A site where the comments are often more interesting than the linked articles. Thanks to all who make the community.
