Depends on whether you are giving people what they need, or what they want. If you ‘give’ an addict rehab they may fight you every step of the way, but if you give them heroin they’ll love you.

  If you're trying to "give" rehab to someone who does not want it you may in fact be "taking away". That said, there are other ways to help those with addiction beyond giving them heroin.
