- bee_rider 4y agoI’m not a film producer, so I’m not in a position to insist on that sort of thing.
- kbenson 4y agoInsist? No. Make a plea because you think it's stupid or harmful or counterproductive? Everyone should feel free to do that.
- bee_rider 4y agoSure but it is a lot easier to attack people’s preferences if we consider having a preference to be equivalent to wanting dictatorial control over every creative project.
- unsupp0rted 4y agoI prefer color, so I’d insist with my dollars and attention, yes. Same if someone wanted to make a silent movie or ask me to join a dating site where all the profile photos are daguerreotypes.
- lukifer 4y agoI recently learned that Darabont intended "The Mist" to be shot in B&W, and the studio wouldn't allow it. While I'm sure the cinematography would have been vastly different if filmed in B&W, a quick Handbrake recompress let me simulate it, and honestly it worked really well. In addition to the "Twilight Zone" vibe, the CGI monsters looked much better without color.
- petodo 4y agoWhy even use Handbrake and not just turn saturation on your TV/display to zero? Seems much faster solution and you can decide whether you wanna color or B&W option with same video file.
- lukifer 4y agoI'm a data-hoarding AV nerd who keeps hand-rips on a big NAS anyway, wasn't exactly out of my way :) I now have both the color and B&W versions on tap with the rest of the collection.
- mrguyorama 4y agoModern CPUs and GPUs can re-encode an HD video in like an hour or two, while you are free to do other things. It's not exactly "wasted" time.
- petodo 4y agothat's hour or two longer than it takes to adjust saturation to 0 on display device, even just setting up encoding software takes longer, so it's waste of time what's the benefit of doing this? you waste your time and you lose color option, I see no advantages over just adjusting saturation
