I would spend every minute of that train ride studying and looking for new work or housing. Get earplugs (cheap) or noise cancelling headphones(not cheap), maybe both, and drop the excuses why you can't do those things. 5 hours a day is a lot of time, you need to find a way to make it productive until you can improve your situation. I never had a commute like that, however I did used to have 1.5 hours a day of bus rides. I studied, it was effective.
