I think you're basically right. You can't justify cruelty by saying "oh at least it's not as cruel as that guy over there". Essentially I've come to the conclusion that we shouldn't kill animals at all. You can say all sorts of things about how well they're treated, and what end they'd meet of we didn't kill them, but in the end they don't want to die and they never consented to this deal where we feed them and keep them warm in exchange for their meat. Of course I'm the biggest hypocrite in the world when it comes to living by it, but at least I can see it's wrong.
