- misiti3780 4y agoand Zuckerberg, and everyone else with a shitload of money
- snowwrestler 4y agoZuckerberg did not set up a charity, in part to preserve its freedom to spend however it wants. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is an LLC.
- kgwxd 4y agoMinus the press release.

- IncRnd 4y agoHere is Bill Gate's Press Release for 2022. "With the support and guidance of our board, we plan to increase our spending from nearly $6 billion per year today to $9 billion per year by 2026. To help make this spending increase possible, I am transferring $20 billion to the foundation’s endowment this month." - 300bps 4y agoSince DaniloDias is shadowbanned and he worded his response in a suboptimal way, I thought I'd paraphrase his response: Gates and Zuckerberg publish plenty of press releases about their charitable giving: https://countercurrents.org/2020/09/zuckerberg-wants-to-change-the-world-with-his-philanthropy/ https://countercurrents.org/2020/09/zuckerberg-wants-to-chan... https://www.gatesfoundation.org/ideas/media-center/press-releases/2022/11/gates-foundation-commits-7-billion-to-african-countries https://www.gatesfoundation.org/ideas/media-center/press-rel...
- unsupp0rted 4y agoBill Gates is on the good guys team now, since he's not actively and aggressively running a company. Musk is still a bad guy. You'd have to wait at least a decade or two for Musk to get old enough to stop being interested in actively running one or more companies and thus be on the good guys team.
- rvz 4y agoYes. Billionaires do this all the time and many of the Musk rent-free brigade on HN are realising and admitting that this isn't the 'gotcha' many of them had hoped for.
- rocket_surgeron 4y agoNo, not at all in the same way. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation actually spends its money on charitable programs. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/562618866/202033179349101943/full https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/562... The Musk Foundation spends very little (~2%) of its assets on charity. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/770587507/202131349349103303/full https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/770... Musk's "charity" is a tax-dodge coupled with an influence and access-buying scheme.
