I have a 60 pound Golden Retriever in a rural area that is completely saturated with coyotes. She has "conversations" with them almost nightly over the fence. I'd bet on her to survive a couple of them, but of course a pack of eleven would be the end of her.
The coyotes haven't crossed the fence as far as I know, but it's barely five feet high, so they could hop it with ease if they wanted to. I want to get her a puppy for a companion, and one who could help in a fight. I've been thinking Labrador, but Great Pyrenees now also sounds like a good choice.
- renewedrebecca 4y agoGerman Shepherds are good for this too, and as a bonus are pretty amazing herders.
- brian_spiering 4y agoAgreed! My 95lb German Shepherd / White Swiss Shepherd chases away packs of coyotes and bears.
- dunefox 4y agoRottweiler as well. One of the best would be a Komondor due to the fur.
- brettermeier 4y agoGet a donkey, they also smash hyenas for fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t5eOK05mZQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t5eOK05mZQ
