The amount of victim blaming here is over the top, even for HN. What I am really surprised about is the sheer number of people that are happy, or even gleeful, that this happened to this developer.
I've noticed a decline in the mood(?) on HN, but this is down to a whole new level.
- allarm 4y agoHow to discuss the need to read the text before signing without blaming the victim? Or your suggestion is to refrain from discussing the victim’s actions whatsoever? Honest question.
- Ensorceled 4y agoAssuming honesty ... There is a difference between: "This is why you shouldn't use GitHub sign-ins, or any social logins, use email logins." and "It's your own fault. You deserve what you got! GitHub did the right thing here."
- allarm 4y agoSure, but the majority of reactions here are of the first type.
- kelnos 4y agoI think you just need to wait. Dang has pointed out that early posts on a new-ish story tend to be of the lowest quality. At this point, most of the shitty posts have been downvoted and the top spots have been replaced with better quality. Granted, looks like you posted 8 hours after the story was posted, so that should be enough time.
- Ensorceled 4y agoYeah, I usually check HN early in the morning so I often get to see that "first posts are often terrible" effect. I don't think that's it though.
