It sure seems like Elon Musk is purging left-leaning Twitter accounts
- isaacfrond 4y agoAt least he can never become president. (as he is not USA born)
- dekhn 4y agoyou mean natural born- Ted Cruz wasn't born in the US, but he could become president (shudder)
- dontbenebby 4y agoSpeaking as a member of the “dirtbag left”, there has always been separate and unequal treatment for those of us who pair the aggressive posting style of folks who talk so derisively about an invisible man in the sky as they demand as much or greater reverence for an alleged invisible hand in the market. The core issue is having it ambiguous who can break the rules and when, married to a purposefully inadequate set of reporting tools. (For context, I actually interviewed to do UX research on anti-abuse features at Twitter back around the time of the 2016 election, and they declined not only to hire me but didn’t fill the role at all… I remember because it was the same day as the Turkish Coup attempt.) Anyways Elon is terrible but it breaks my heart since Twitter is a good way to discover new news sources / articles in a way unreplicated by Reddit (which has its own… special… issues.)
- rvz 4y agoSo left-leaning 'journalists' don't like it when the Twitter terms of service also applies to them and they start crying when they realized that it does? Hilarious. Twitter is a private company. Don't like it? You are free to build your own as it was once said years ago. Maybe with Mastodon, thecrimeinc and its other left-wing extremist accounts are free to incite and promote violence there on their own instance, just like the other far-right extremists there that they are chasing everywhere, but not on Twitter, I'm afraid. Looks like the terms of services is now applied equally. As it should if both extremists are crying over it.
- jleyank 4y agoThere is a balance/risk here. Companies of that size will face severe legal hurdles based on treatment of different religious, social, economic or ethnic groups. It’s all well and good saying “just start your own”, but I doubt you’ll just go and do so when they exclude you.
- john_the_writer 4y agoPrivate company. if they don't like it, then can start their own. I know I read that somewhere.
- jleyank 4y agoAh, so then you use the proper definition of us free speech: the govt does not interfere? I thought EM was using the more open version: nobody interferes. I guess it’s a mixed form: nobody but EM interferes? It’s his money, it’s his toy (as you say). But don’t get pissy about who is or isn’t on the platform when your ox gets gored.
- jfengel 4y agoYep. I said that, and I still believe it. Many are going elsewhere already.
