EU throws party in €387K metaverse – and hardly anyone turns up
- pornel 4y agoThe goal of reaching out to young people who don't care about politics is great, but it's a shame the organizers have fallen for building a "Metaverse" thing without apparently validating whether anyone cares about the Metaverse. This meeting could have been an email -> this metaverse gala could have been a vrchat.

- debugnik 4y agoA metaverse, not Meta's metaverse. That's precisely the kind of confusion FB hoped for when they changed names, much like people that confuse git with GitHub. In particular, they contracted a German company to build a digital space. What a waste of our money.
- WastingMyTime89 4y agoWeirdly, I wish they had actually parterned with a competent digital marketing company and spent the money on an event in Fortnite. It would have made Epic richer, an idea I dislike but at least it would have effectively reached their target audience.

- sharperguy 4y agoIt's more like the other way around. Nobody used the term "metaverse" until Facebook's announcement. - nix23 4y agoHey EU please use SecondLife, i would love to see FlintenUschi in Heels, Angelwings, lots of Lindens and some sexy latex lingerie. That could even attract some 40-80 y/o, maybe the buddy's from McKinsey can come too...you know the party animals per-se.

If that's the goal, wouldn't investing into TikTok and Instagram content make much more sense?
- Kukumber 4y agoTime to investigate - who came up with that idea - what partner got selected - who lobbied - what technologies did they use - what cloud platform did they choose I remember about that news last year, but forgot about it, thanks for remind us about it
